PM Modi’s Leadership Transforms India’s Mindset: From ‘Chalta Hai’ to ‘Hoga Kaise Nahi,’ Says EAM Jaishankar at Pravasi Bharatiya Divas
Bhubaneswar: Speaking at the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) in Bhubaneswar, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar lauded the significant role of India’s youth in shaping global advancements. He also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s influence in inspiring a transformative mindset among Indians.
Reflecting on PM Modi’s deep connection with the younger generation, Jaishankar shared an anecdote about Indian badminton champion P.V. Sindhu. Recalling her words, he said, “P.V. Sindhu once observed why PM Modi resonates as a youth icon. She attributed it to his leadership, which shifted the nation’s mindset from ‘chalta hai’ (acceptance of mediocrity) to ‘badal sakta hai’ (can change) to ‘hoga kaise nahi’ (why not make it happen).”
Jaishankar underscored the contributions of young Indians to global innovations in areas like artificial intelligence (AI), electric vehicles (EVs), startups, and even sports such as cricket and chess. “As the younger generations drive critical global changes, India has embarked on its journey towards becoming a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (developed nation) in the Amrit Kaal. While development is inherently complex, it becomes easier with the confidence that nothing is beyond our reach,” he said.
Encouraging the Indian diaspora to promote tourism, Jaishankar urged, “On behalf of Prime Minister Modi, I invite you to showcase India as a premier tourist destination. If young Indian-origin professionals (PIOs) bring their international friends to explore India’s rich heritage and culture, it could foster a lifelong appreciation for our country.”
He also highlighted a break in tradition in selecting the guest of honour for the event, choosing someone from the media and business sectors instead of the political world. “This decision reflects the remarkable achievements of young Indians across various domains. Odisha, as the host state, offers a vibrant cultural and historical experience, emphasising India’s identity as a civilisational society,” Jaishankar remarked.
The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, taking place from January 8 to 10, celebrates the contributions of the Indian diaspora to nation-building. With over 50 countries represented, the event is themed “Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the convention on January 9 at 10:00 am, marking a momentous occasion to honour the diaspora’s pivotal role in India’s development and global engagement.
