PM Narendra Modi is set to attend the Quad Summit in Delaware on September 21, hosted by US President Joe Biden.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the United States from September 21 to 23, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday. The ministry provided a detailed itinerary for the trip, with the highlight being the Quad Leaders’ Summit on Saturday, September 21, in Wilmington, Delaware. The summit, hosted by US President Joe Biden in his hometown, carries extra significance as Biden will not be running for a second term, meaning the next Quad summit, hosted by India next year, will see a new US president.
“This will be President Biden’s first time hosting foreign leaders in Wilmington as president—a reflection of his strong personal ties with the Quad leaders and the importance of the Quad for all our nations,” said Biden’s spokesperson, Karine Jean-Pierre, quoted by AFP. The summit will also be attended by Japan’s Fumio Kishida and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
According to the MEA, the Quad leaders will assess the alliance’s progress over the past year and set an agenda to support the development goals of Indo-Pacific nations in the coming year. In New York, PM Modi will address the Indian diaspora at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Sunday, with over 24,000 participants registered for the event titled “Modi & US: Progress Together,” according to a PTI report.
Modi is also scheduled to meet with CEOs of major US companies to strengthen collaborations in areas such as AI, quantum computing, semiconductors, and biotechnology. Additionally, he is expected to engage with thought leaders and stakeholders involved in the India-US bilateral relationship, the MEA noted.
