September 19, 2024: In the election rally speech in Srinagar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reinforced the BJP’s commitment to restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood and focused on key issues relevant to the region. He emphasized, “The bumper voting in the first phase of Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections has rejected the parties that sympathize with stone-pelting and terrorism.”
“It’s my pledge that the new generation will not suffer under the rule of three families,” he stated. Modi highlighted positive changes since 2019, emphasizing that Jammu and Kashmir has seen a return to normalcy, symbolizing an end to disruptions like stone-pelting, which was a common form of protest before 2019. PM Modi remarked, “All schools and colleges in J&K are now functioning normally. Youths are carrying pens, not stones. Instead of hearing news of schools being burned, we now hear about the construction of AIIMS, IITs, and other infrastructure.”
Modi criticized the dominance of certain political families, likely targeting the National Conference, Congress, and People’s Democratic Party, stating, “For 35 years, Kashmir remained closed for 3,000 days, but since 2019, it hasn’t been shut down for even eight hours. Do you want to return to those days of hartals?”
Modi used the rally to encourage voters to turn out in large numbers for the upcoming elections, scheduled for September 25. His message emphasized rejecting the politics of violence and supporting development. The remaining phases of the elections will take place on September 25 and October 1, with vote counting scheduled for October 8.
