Raksha Bandhan is a traditional Hindu annual rite that is central to a festival of the same name celebrated in South Asia. As a ritual, sisters tie an amulet called the Rakhi around the wrists of their brothers. They symbolically protect them, receive a gift in return, and traditionally invest in the brothers with a share of the responsibility of their potential care. The festival is a symbol of the unbreakable bond between the brother and sister. This year, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, celebrated the festival with Delhi schoolgirls at his residence. Many girls came to his residence and tied Rakhi on his wrists.
The celebration was followed by children reciting poems and singing songs. They also interacted with the PM and talked about the positive view of the launch of Chandrayan-3 and their excitement about the upcoming project Aditya L-1 mission. Furthermore, Narendra Modi also encouraged the children to write their own poems on different topics, including government schemes and public benefit areas. He also interacted with them on various issues. Representatives of many NGOs, widows from Vrindavan, and other people were also present.
School children also made the custom Rakhi, which has an image of the PM on it. Narendra Modi also told the children about the importance of self-reliance and encouraged them to buy products that are made in India. Modi greeted everyone with a smile and affection. The celebration came to an end when Narendra Modi posed for a group picture with children and teachers on the auspicious occasion. Raksha Bandhan is not only celebrated with blood relatives but also with the people who are protecting us on borders. In Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, we can see schoolgirls tying rakhis to CRPF jawans. In the Samba district of the Valley, BSF jawans celebrated Raksha Bandhan with school children. This shows the versatile culture of India and the unbreakable bond between the citizens of India.
