On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) celebrations in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, honoring Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary, observed every October 31. According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the event featured an Indian Air Force flypast following Modi’s floral tribute at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia. He participated in the Ekta Diwas ceremonies by administering the Unity Pledge and observing the Ekta Diwas Parade, which included 16 contingents from nine states, one Union Territory, four Central Armed Police Forces, the National Cadet Corps, and a marching band. The highlights included the NSG Hell March contingent, a BSF and CRPF bikers’ daredevil show, a BSF martial arts performance, a schoolchildren’s pipe band, and the Indian Air Force’s ‘Surya Kiran’ flypast.

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, celebrated annually on October 31, commemorates Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s role in India’s independence and unification. During his two-day visit to Gujarat, Modi inaugurated several projects in Kevadia on Wednesday, totaling over ₹284 crore. These initiatives aim to boost tourism, accessibility, and sustainability in the region, enhancing the areas around the Statue of Unity.

As part of the tourism expansion, Modi introduced new attractions and tourism projects to elevate Ekta Nagar’s global appeal, with world-class facilities now available for visitors. The area also saw the installation of 24 sculptures inspired by “water, nature, and unity,” created during a July 2024 sculpture symposium with SAPTI.

Additionally, Modi engaged in discussions with young civil servants, emphasizing governance through ‘Jan Bhagidari’ (people’s participation) to improve citizens’ ‘Ease of Living.’ He shared these insights with officer trainees attending the 99th Common Foundation Course, ‘Aarambh 6.0,’ held near the Statue of Unity, under the theme ‘Roadmap for Atma Nirbhar and Viksit Bharat,’ with 653 officer trainees from 16 Indian civil services and three from Bhutan.

In a post on X, Modi encouraged trainees to enhance public ‘Ease of Living.’ Modi also inaugurated a walkway from Bus Khadi (Bus Bay) to Viewpoint-1, a new road from Ekta Dwar to Shreshtha Bharat Bhavan, and a four-megawatt solar project worth ₹23.26 crore, promoting Ekta Nagar as a model for sustainable tourism and civic facilities. According to the official release, Ekta Nagar is set to serve as a national benchmark, with advanced infrastructure and eco-friendly policies designed to create an appealing tourist destination.
