PM Modi Arrives in Brunei with Plans to Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties
In a special gesture, the Crown Prince of Brunei Darussalam, Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, welcomed the Prime Minister upon his arrival.

PM Narendra Modi arrived in Brunei Darussalam on Tuesday, marking the first-ever bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country.
In a special gesture, Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah welcomed him upon arrival. During his visit, the Prime Minister will hold discussions with Brunei’s top leadership to explore ways to enhance bilateral relations. Prior to his departure, Modi stated, “Today, I am embarking on the first-ever bilateral visit to Brunei Darussalam. As we celebrate 40 years of diplomatic relations, I look forward to meeting His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and other esteemed members of the Royal Family to elevate our historical relationship to new heights.”
The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that the visit aims to strengthen India’s cooperation with Brunei across various sectors, including defense, trade and investment, energy, space technology, health, capacity building, culture, and people-to-people exchanges, while also exploring opportunities in new areas. Members of the Indian diaspora eagerly awaited Modi’s arrival in Brunei.
One member expressed, “We are all very excited… We have been waiting for his arrival for the past few years. At last, we will be seeing him. We are all very happy.” Another added, “I am very excited to see PM Modi. We feel proud of him for the changes he has brought and India’s recognition as a world leader.” Following his visit to Brunei, Modi will travel to Singapore on Wednesday, where he is scheduled to meet President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.
