Piyush Goyal Slams Rahul Gandhi’s Call for Market Crash Probe as ‘Baseless Conspiracy,’ Highlights BJP’s Economic Record
Piyush Goyal, the BJP MP representing the Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency, countered Rahul Gandhi’s call for an investigation into the June 4 market crash, dismissing it as ‘baseless’ and accusing Gandhi of plotting a conspiracy.
Goyal emphasised that the claimed loss of ₹30 lakh crore was not factual and didn’t relate to actual trading. He also criticised Gandhi’s demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe, labeling it as ‘useless comments.’ Goyal highlighted the stock market’s growth under the BJP government, asserting that retail and domestic investors had gained significantly. He suggested that Gandhi’s statements aimed to mislead investors due to frustration over the Opposition’s defeat.
Regarding market movements during the Lok Sabha election results, Goyal pointed out that the trading value was around ₹6,840 crore and attributed the market fall to the Congress gaining seats. When asked about Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah’s statements on the stock market, Goyal stated that every party boasts about its achievements, just as the Congress does. He also referenced the surge in stock markets following exit poll predictions on June 3, with Modi and BJP ministers expressing confidence in market performance before the election results were announced.
