In a significant breakthrough, security forces have successfully eliminated three terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent people. The operation, code-named Operation Mahadev, was carried out near Srinagar by a joint team of the Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Confirmation of Terrorists’ Identity
Union Home Minister Amit Shah personally oversaw the confirmation process, staying up all night to review the ballistic report and communicate with scientists. The government’s investigation involved matching bullet casings from the Pahalgam attack site with those fired from the weapons recovered during Operation Mahadev. The scientists conducted test-firing with the recovered weapons and matched the empty bullet casings with those from the attack site, confirming a 99% match.
Foiling Escape Plans
The security forces had identified an 8-km path the terrorists could use to escape and beefed up security in that region. They also located secret tunnels used by the terrorists for infiltration and flooded them, blocking their escape routes. This strategic move trapped the terrorists, allowing the forces to track them down and eliminate them.
