In a significant humanitarian effort, India has undertaken “Operation Ajay” to rescue its nationals from the conflict-torn region of Israel. The latest development includes the arrival of a flight carrying 274 Indian nationals at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, marking the fourth flight in the operation since its launch.

“Operation Ajay” was initiated on October 12 with the primary objective of facilitating the safe return of Indian nationals who wish to leave Israel, a region marred by the ongoing conflict between Israeli forces and Hamas militants.

The most recent flight, the second of the day, departed from Israel’s Ben Gurion airport at 11.45 pm local time, following another flight that left at around 5.40 pm local time, carrying the third batch of 197 Indian nationals.

The Indian Embassy in Israel has been actively coordinating and facilitating the return of its citizens as part of “Operation Ajay.” They have urged Indian nationals still in Israel and desiring to travel back to India to complete a travel form. Travel slots are allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. Furthermore, the embassy has emphasized the importance of honoring confirmed slots to avoid delays for other evacuees.

Ambassador Sanjeev Singla has reiterated that the embassy has been working tirelessly to assist all Indian citizens in Israel who wish to leave, reaching out to students, caregivers, and business professionals. Notably, some of these individuals have volunteered to work with the embassy, reflecting the collaborative efforts to ensure a safe return for all.

Since the initiation of “Operation Ajay,” India has seen four flights departing from Israel, carrying hundreds of Indian nationals back to their homeland. The first charter flight left Israel with 212 people on board, followed by the second batch of 235 Indian nationals. In total, 918 Indian nationals have been flown out of Israel so far.

Israel is home to a significant Indian expatriate community, comprising caregivers, students, IT professionals, and diamond traders, among others. The ongoing conflict in the region has necessitated the voluntary departure of Indians from Israel due to safety concerns.

The conflict between Israeli forces and Hamas militants, which escalated with a surprise attack by Hamas terrorists on October 7, has resulted in significant casualties. More than 1,300 people have lost their lives in Israel, while Israeli counter-airstrikes have claimed at least 1,900 lives in Gaza.

“Operation Ajay” underscores India’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens in conflict zones and its dedication to humanitarian efforts in challenging times.
