Summer Olympics is a multinational sports event that consists of several sporting events ranging from boxing, wrestling, basketball, football, hockey and several more. Summer Olympics take place every 4 years (however the previous edition was held in 2021 instead of 2020 due to Covid-19) and countries from across the globe participate in the half-month-long-event.

The city of lights is all set to host the 33rd edition of summer Olympic games beginning from 26th July 2024 till 11th August 2024 with participation from 10000+ athletes from across 184 countries who will compete in 32 sports for 329 medal events.

Events of the summer Olympics are to be held across 16 cities of France with Paris being the major host city, with a new addition of a French coastal island country, Tahiti as a host as well a participating nation for the first time. Along with Tahiti, Niue is also making its debut in this year’s summer Olympics.

Russia and Belarus are forbidden from participation in this edition due to the ongoing crisis between Russia and Ukraine , however, 45 athletes from these nations will be participating as independent athletes. ‘ Breakdancing’ as a sport will be a new addition to this year’s summer Olympics.

The opening ceremony of Paris Olympics is set to take place on 26th July 2024, beginning with the lightening up of Olympic torch followed by the flag bearers from the participating nations.

Indian Contingent to the Paris Olympics

The Indian contingent of 120 athletes will be led by badminton star PV Sindhu along with the Table Tennis legend Sharath Kamal. India ended the Tokyo Olympics 2020 with its highest ever medal tally of 7 medals with a historic participation of 124 athletes. This year’s contingent of 120 athletes will look to surpass the previous edition’s tally with the golden boy Neeraj Chopra taking the hopes high and looking forward to a consecutive gold medal in men’s javelin throw.

Where to watch Olympic Games in India?

This year’s Summer Olympics will be streamed on the OTT platform Jio Cinema along with the TV channel Sports 18 for the Indian Audience. Viewers can parallel watch various event streams live.

Closing Ceremony

The closing ceremony of this edition of the summer Olympics will be held with the conclusion of events on 11th August 2024.
