Nolan’s Oppenheimer Dominates 77th BAFTA Awards with Seven Wins

The 77th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA), held at the Royal Festival Hall in London on Sunday, created a notable atmosphere for the talented film crew and actors as it honored the best movies of 2023.

The ceremony, hosted by the English actor David Tennant, included significant celebrities like Prince William, David Beckham, Dua Lipa, and Deepika Padukone attending the event on February 18. One of the most sensational movies of 2023, Oppenheimer, a biography of American physicist Robert Oppenheimer directed by the established filmmaker Christopher Nolan, won 7 accolades including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy, and Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr. It was released on 21st July 2023.

The dark comedy ‘Poor Things’ proved to be close runner-up as it won 5 awards, including Best Actress for Emma Stone, who had been praised by the critics for her performance as a reanimated woman in the movie.

The BAFTA ceremony marked a proud moment for India as Deepika Padukone made her appearance on the red carpet and presented the award for Best Film Not in the English Language, won by ‘The Zone of Interest’.

The ceremony was held just under a month before the Oscars, making it a significant event in the award-season calendar. The most prestigious film award, The Academy Awards, is set to be held on March 11 at the Dolby Theatre.
