A 40-year-old trader, Ompal Bhati, was shot dead in Sector 12, Noida, on Wednesday afternoon. Bhati, a resident of Sector 94, was engaged in foreign exchange trading with an office in Sector 18. According to the police, Bhati visited a rented flat in W Block of Sector 12 to meet a man around 1:30 p.m. During the meeting, he was shot in the chest and killed.
Investigation Underway
The police investigation revealed that two men, one of whom identified himself as Pawan, had approached the owner of the two-storey house in Sector 12 on Tuesday, inquiring about accommodation available for rent. They returned on Wednesday morning, finalized the deal, and paid ₹1,000 as token money. The suspects took the keys for cleaning the flat, allegedly called Bhati to discuss something important, and shot him during the conversation.
Motive Still Unknown
Station House Officer Vidhyut Goel stated that the motive behind the killing is yet to be known. The suspects fled the scene after locals heard the gunshot and converged on the area. Their Delhi-registered motorcycle didn’t start, and they left it behind, walking away from the scene.
Contradiction Over Cash
Locals alleged that Bhati carried a bag full of cash, which was taken away by the suspects. However, Deputy Commissioner of Police Yamuna Prasad nullified this claim, stating that Bhati’s wife confirmed he didn’t leave home with any cash. The police have registered a case of murder under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Sector 24 police station, and efforts are underway to arrest the suspects.
