India is set to host for the first time UNESCO’s prestigious World Heritage Committee meeting from July 21–31, 2024, in New Delhi. As an integral part of the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee and in the framework of the UNESCO World Heritage Education Programme, the Ministry of Culture is hosting the 2024 World Heritage Young Professionals Forum. After the successful completion of the G20 Summit 2023, the VVIP area of Lutyens, Delhi, is set to receive a grand welcome from the world leaders. Lutyens Delhi is set to host representatives from 142 nations under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi’s initiative of ‘ Atithi Devo Bhava ‘. The mega event will be the first time that representatives from 142 countries will be present in India at a time.

Beautification and Decoration

The beautification work is being done by the New Delhi Municipal Corporation with the installation of flowerpots and lights in the Sardar Patel Marg area, whereas the hotels are being decorated for the stay of these representatives, like a newlywed bride. An estimate of 50,000 flower pots are being installed along with 8 decorated flower boards in the way of their travel. Several colourful flags are also being installed at the Sardar Patel Marg.

However, the monsoon season is going on in Delhi, with instances of the New Delhi area being flooded by water, showcasing its bad drainage system. As a precautionary measure, NDMC has identified 2 hotspots at Dilli Haat INA and African Avenue. They have further installed two pumps of 6,000 litres each for any situation arising due to water logging in the area.

The Ministry of Heritage and Culture has also planned streetscaping for the visiting guests. The streetscaping would include wall paintings and hand crafted sculptures on the way at African Avenue and Safdarjung flyover.

Traffic restrictions will be imposed in these areas during the committee; however, no official information has been provided by the Delhi Traffic Police as of now.
