Nepal experienced another earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 on the Richter scale on Monday evening, adding to the woes of a nation already grappling with the aftermath of a deadly quake that struck on November 3, claiming the lives of 153 people. This latest seismic activity marks the third earthquake in the span of just four days, further challenging the Himalayan nation’s recovery efforts.
The earthquake’s impact was not confined to Nepal alone, as tremors were felt in parts of northern India, including the Delhi-NCR region.
The previous earthquake, which occurred on Friday, primarily affected the Jajarkot and Rukum West districts in western Nepal. It resulted in extensive damage to approximately 8,000 houses, both public and private, according to officials.
In response to the dire situation, India has provided crucial assistance to Nepal. Two truckloads of emergency relief materials were dispatched, accompanied by a security team, to the affected northwest mountainous region where the local population is facing severe shortages of food, clothing, and medicine. An Indian Air Force C-130 flight landed in Nepal on Sunday, delivering the first consignment of emergency relief materials valued at Rs 10 crore.
The relief materials consist of various essentials, including plastic tarpaulins, tents, sleeping bags, blankets, large-size tents, tent accessories, medicines, and other critical supplies. These efforts aim to support the affected communities and help them recover from the recent seismic disturbances.
