NATO foreign ministers are set to meet in Prague this Friday. The aim of this summit in Prague has two goals: the first one is to create a suitable aid package in support of Ukraine before the summit in July in Washington.

The second agenda of this meeting is to decide whether Ukraine shall be allowed to use long-range weapons of the West to strike Russia. On this topic, the members seem to be divided as Kiev pushes hard for the use of long-range weapons as it struggles to fight back against the Russian offensive.

On one hand, we have countries like France who say that Ukraine must be allowed to neutralize Russian bases. The French President Emmanuel Macron stated, “Ukraine must be allowed to neutralize bases used for launching attacks.”

On the other hand, countries like Germany oppose Kiev’s actions. The German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated, “Ukraine should act within the law and Berlin has not supplied the weapons to hit Russia anyway.” While the US has opposed, the Secretary of State has hinted at a change in strategy.

Meanwhile, Moscow has reacted very strongly. The Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned of “serious consequences” if the West gives approval to Ukraine.
