Nashik: In a shocking incident, Nashik police have detained three individuals, including two minors, for attempting to murder a popular social media influencer in a bid to gain access to his account and increase their follower count.
The incident occurred on Friday at the Godavari riverbed below the Kannamwar Bridge. According to police, the accused, identified as Farid Mansoori, 19, and his two minor associates, intercepted the victim, Saurabh Maurya, 17, a social media influencer with over 8 lakh followers. The accused allegedly demanded Maurya’s social media account ID and password, and when he refused, they beat him up and threatened to kill him.
The police detained all three accused and seized the weapons used in the incident. The two minors have been taken into juvenile custody, while the adult suspect, Mansoori, has been arrested and is being held at the Nashik City Police Station.
Gajendra Patil, SPI at Bhadrakali Police Station, said that further investigation is ongoing. “We have detained all three accused, and we will take strict action based on the findings of the investigation,” he added.
A case has been registered at the Bhadrakali Police Station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Maharashtra Police Act. The police are working to determine the motive behind the accused’s actions and whether there were any other factors involved.
The incident highlights the risks faced by social media influencers and the need for them to be vigilant about their safety and security. Maurya’s popularity on social media may have made him a target for the accused, who sought to exploit his online presence for their own gain.
