Meerut: Police on Monday submitted a comprehensive 1,000-page chargesheet in a Meerut court against Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla, the prime suspects in the brutal killing of 35-year-old former merchant navy officer Saurabh Rajput. His dismembered body was discovered on March 19, encased in cement inside a sealed blue drum at his Brahmpuri residence. The duo was arrested after returning from a trip to Himachal Pradesh.
SP (City) Ayush Vikram Singh stated that the chargesheet contains crucial evidence, including forensic analysis, call records, CCTV footage, and more. He emphasised that the police aim to build a solid case to ensure the accused receive maximum punishment.
An official familiar with the investigation clarified that the murder wasn’t motivated by black magic, as initially speculated, but stemmed from a romantic relationship. Their original plan was to dispose of the body in a suitcase, but when it didn’t fit, they resorted to using a drum filled with cement. Investigators also found a bone fragment in the suitcase.
Statements from key individuals were included in the chargesheet — among them, Muskan, Sahil, Muskan’s parents Kavita and Pramod Rastogi, Saurabh’s parents and his brother Rahul, as well as a cab driver, a pharmacist, and sellers of knives, drums, and cement. Testimonies from doctors, landlords, and hotel owners in Shimla, Manali, and Kasauli (where the accused stayed post-crime) and several police officers were also recorded.
Since their arrest, both Muskan and Sahil have been held at Chaudhary Charan Singh District Jail in Meerut. Their bail applications were denied, and Muskan was later found to be pregnant during a routine medical check.
