New Delhi: In light of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, Mumbai’s iconic Shree Siddhivinayak Temple has temporarily suspended the offering of coconuts, flowers, and laddu prasad as a precautionary security measure, according to temple trust president Sada Sarvankar.
Sarvankar affirmed that security at the temple remains tight, with both Mumbai Police and temple trust personnel deployed to safeguard devotees. “Enhanced security steps have been taken due to the situation at the border. For now, we’ve halted traditional offerings to maintain safety,” he said.
This decision follows a broader set of precautionary actions taken across Maharashtra. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently held a high-level review meeting under the ‘war book’ framework to assess emergency preparedness. “All district units have been briefed and equipped to handle the current scenario,” the CM noted.
The security measures come in the wake of Pakistan’s drone and missile strikes along the western border and Line of Control (LoC), prompting India to launch Operation Sindoor on May 7. The operation targeted nine terror-related locations across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including radar and command centers, in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.
Addressing the situation on Sunday, DGMO Lt. Gen. Rajiv Ghai described the current atmosphere as akin to war, citing ongoing cross-border attacks and suspected Pakistani Army-backed infiltration. He honored the sacrifices of five soldiers and civilians killed by Pakistani shelling and warned that any threat to India’s sovereignty would be met with strong, calculated retaliation.
