The Mumbai police have arrested a 38-year-old woman for allegedly assaulting a five-year-old girl with a hot iron rod after the child hid the woman’s pet cat. The incident came to light after the girl’s family reported it to the police, leading to the registration of an FIR.
According to an officer, the incident occurred around 11 AM on Thursday at Shivaji Nagar in Govandi. The girl’s parents, who have been living there for the past three months, had entrusted her to the care of a neighbour.
While at the neighbour’s house, the girl was with 38-year-old Nishad Shaikh when she hid Shaikh’s cat, as per officials. When the girl refused to reveal the cat’s location, Shaikh became agitated. She allegedly struck the child on the head with an iron rod and then used a heated iron rod to burn her right leg. The girl received treatment at Shatabdi Hospital and was later discharged.
A case has been filed under Section 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
