Two cases of passport tampering surfaced at Mumbai airport. In one instance, a woman modified her passport to obscure her return date from her parents, aiming to hide a meeting with a friend. In another case, a student removed pages from her passport to conceal a trip to Thailand, taken while on sick leave during exams. Both individuals are now facing legal action.
A 26-year-old woman from Punjab, identified as Satveer Kaur, was arrested after immigration officials at Mumbai airport stopped her from boarding a flight to Toronto. Authorities discovered irregularities in her passport, which had been tampered with to conceal certain travel details.
Kaur, who had returned to India after five years of higher studies in Canada, was set to rejoin her life there with a new job. However, during the inspection, officials found that the arrival date of September 28 had been erased from her passport. Police revealed that Kaur removed the date to prevent her parents from knowing she had returned to India.
“She admitted that her parents were unaware of her return on September 28 and that she had hidden the information because she had gone to meet a friend,” a police official stated.
Charges of Cheating and Forgery
Kaur was stopped from boarding her flight and now faces legal action, including charges of cheating and forgery.
This case echoes a similar incident in August when a 25-year-old fashion merchandising student was detained at an international airport. The student had removed pages from her passport to conceal a trip to Thailand, which occurred during a period she had claimed to be on sick leave from her college. Both individuals now face serious legal consequences for their actions.
