A horrific incident unfolded on Wednesday when a couple was thrown off a moving train by a robber attempting to snatch the woman’s bag between Bhandup and Kanjurmarg stations. The couple, Dipali and Yogesh Deshmukh, suffered serious injuries, with Yogesh’s left arm having to be amputated due to the severity of the injuries.
According to the police, Dipali Deshmukh, 44, and her husband Yogesh, 50, an Ayurvedic doctor from Panvel, were traveling with their nine-year-old daughter on the LTT Nanded Special Express train when the incident occurred at around 3:50 am. The robber attempted to snatch Dipali’s purse, but she resisted, leading to a scuffle. Yogesh woke up and tried to help his wife, but the robber dragged both of them towards the door and pulled them along with him as he jumped off the train.
The couple fell onto the tracks and were seriously injured. Dipali immediately took her husband to Fortis Hospital, where his arm had to be amputated. The Kurla Government Railway Police (GRP) have registered a case against the unidentified thief under Section 309 (robbery) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
This incident comes close on the heels of a similar robbery on June 1, where a couple, Ayub Khan and Hina Khan, were targeted by a gang of four robbers on the Jaipur-Bandra Express. The couple was threatened at knife-point and robbed of valuables worth ₹700,000.
The GRP is investigating both cases and appealing for any information that might lead to the identification and capture of the culprits.
