On Thursday, Red Chillies Entertainment, the production house owned by Shah Rukh Khan and his wife, Gauri Khan, lodged a complaint with the Mumbai police regarding stolen video clips from their upcoming film “Jawan.” The incident took place at the Santacruz police station. The leaked clips, which surfaced on Twitter, inflicted significant harm on both the film and the production company.

On May 6, an initial user posted the video, and this was subsequently followed by four more users, resulting in the rapid popularity of the content.

The complaint was formally filed by the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Red Chillies Entertainment, Mr. Pradeep Nimani. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the video clips were illicitly obtained from the production house and disseminated online via the microblogging platform Twitter. To prevent any instances of footage leakage, strict guidelines were enforced during the film’s shooting, prohibiting the use of mobile phones by individuals present on the set.

The complainant has specifically identified five Twitter accounts in the FIR that are held responsible for this breach. Legal action has been taken by the police under the provisions of Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 43b of the Information Technology Act. Red Chillies Entertainment had also initiated a commercial lawsuit in the Delhi High Court, leading to a court order to remove the leaked videos from Twitter.

Unfortunately, this is not the first occurrence of such an incident, as the film has previously encountered leaks on two separate occasions. Despite the concerted efforts of both the production house and law enforcement, the unlawful sharing of film footage has become an unsettling norm in the digital age, where complete movie piracy is rampant. Within a mere span of one or two days, films frequently become accessible on multiple unauthorized online platforms, causing substantial harm to production entities and distributors, while also contravening the provisions of the IT Act.

“Jawan,” directed by Atlee, is set to be released worldwide in theaters on September 7, 2023. The film will be available in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu languages. Notably, Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi will share the screen with Shah Rukh Khan, and Deepika Padukone is slated to make a special appearance in the movie.
