Motorcycle Theft Gang of 4 Members Based in Meerut Arrested Following a Gunfight
Noida: Four individuals from a Meerut-based two-wheeler theft gang were arrested after a gunfight with the police. Among them, two suspects engaged in the shootout, leaving one injured. Authorities recovered at least 14 stolen motorcycles from their possession.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Imran, Arif Rana, Shariq, and Usman, all residents of Meerut. According to DCP Rambadan Singh, Imran and Arif Rana were apprehended first during a gunfight conducted by the Sector-58 police.
“Imran is recognised as the leader of this gang. On the night of January 25-26, the Sector-58 police were conducting vehicle checks near Jaipuria in Sector-62 when Imran and Arif approached on a motorcycle. Upon being signalled to stop, the suspects attempted to flee,” Singh stated.
During their escape, the duo lost control of the motorcycle and fell. Surrounded by the police, they opened fire, prompting a gunfight. Imran sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg and was immediately detained and sent for medical treatment. Arif Rana was captured during a subsequent combing operation. An illegal pistol and cartridges were also seized.
ADCP Manish Mishra revealed that Imran would frequently travel to Noida by bus to conduct reconnaissance for potential theft targets. After identifying vehicles, he would steal them and transport them to Meerut, where his associates dismantled and sold the parts. Based on Rana’s interrogation, the police tracked down and arrested their accomplices, Shariq and Usman.
A case has been registered against the suspects under Sections 109 (abetment), 317(2)(5) (handling stolen property), 3(5) (joint liability) of the IPC, and relevant sections of the Arms Act.
Imran, who has been an active criminal since 2014, has 65 cases registered against him. Further investigation is underway.
