Modi’s Visit and Inauguration of Transformative Projects in Jammu and Kashmir

New areas of development commenced in Jammu and Kashmir on February 20 as Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the region. He announced significant initiatives worth rupees 32000 crores to take place in Kashmir, ranging from education, infrastructure, health, and civic sectors.

During his tenure in Jammu, Modi launched the region’s first electric train and also the railway line between Sangaldan station and Baramulla station. Moreover, employment was provided to over 1500 newly recruited government officials. The foundation stones for Prestigious universities IIT and IIM were laid in Jammu to foster higher education opportunities in the region. Development of various road projects and bridges will improve connectivity within Jammu and Kashmir and with other parts of India. For tourists, new transit accommodation facilities have been set up to temporarily accommodate pilgrims and travelers who visit Jammu and Kashmir. Related to health facilities.

Emphasizing the projects, Modi highlighted the focus on Jammu and Kashmir’s development, stating that the now-scrapped Article 370 was a key hurdle in achieving this. He further promised the citizens of Kashmir to fulfill their dreams and vowed to initiate the motto of ‘Visit Jammu and Kashmir’ across India. “I have full faith in you and we will make ‘Viksit Jammu and Kashmir.’ Your dreams of 70 years will be fulfilled in the coming years,” he said.

While the new initiatives and projects have been applauded by many, several others raise concerns over the environmental factors and displacement of vulnerable people due to infrastructure advancements. The upcoming years shall look at how these developments will proceed further while boosting the region of Jammu and Kashmir.
