The cyber glitch caused by CrowdStrike’s software update triggered a meltdown in Microsoft systems across the world, paralyzing operations globally. All Windows users were logged out of their systems and stuck in recovery mode due to this global outage. It led to the stoppage of the majority of flights and a collapse in share markets worldwide. The corporate sector and media industry were also impacted due to this update from CrowdStrike.

CrowdStrike, a US-based cybersecurity firm, helps companies manage their IT security, mainly protecting data connected to or accessible through the internet. The company stops data breaches, ransomware, and cyberattacks. One of the company’s main products is the CrowdStrike Falcon sensor, a key component of CrowdStrike’s endpoint protection platform. The software is installed on devices to provide real-time protection from cyber threats.

In the meantime, Microsoft reported that CrowdStrike’s update affected 8.5 million Windows devices, less than one percent of all Windows machines. While the update affected a smaller portion of users, its impact was global, as almost the entire world was affected by this glitch. Major companies and media outlets were unable to operate smoothly.

Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, said on the social media platform X, “Yesterday, CrowdStrike released an update that began impacting IT systems globally. We are aware of this issue and are working closely with CrowdStrike and across the industry to provide customers technical guidance and support to safely bring their systems back online.”

As of now, all major airlines, the corporate sector, the media industry, and other Windows users are facing no issues, and the glitch has been resolved. According to the RBI, 10 banks and NBFCs were affected by the global Microsoft outage, but all are now working fine.
