The Meghalaya Police have achieved a breakthrough in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, arresting three assailants from Madhya Pradesh and securing the surrender of the victim’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi. According to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the arrests were made within seven days of the investigation.

  • Arrest and Surrender: The police arrested three suspects from Madhya Pradesh, while Sonam Raghuvanshi surrendered in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. The police chief, I Nongrang, confirmed that Sonam had hired the killers.
  • Investigation: Investigators found a fresh clue when a trekking guide revealed that he saw Sonam and Raghuvanshi with three unidentified men on the day Raghuvanshi was last seen. The guide had offered his services as a guide to the couple.
  • Evidence Recovery: The police recovered a smashed mobile phone and a machete from the gorge where Raghuvanshi’s body was found. The machete was sent for forensic examination to determine if it was used in the killing.

  • Multi-Agency Effort: The search operation involved the Meghalaya Police, fire and emergency services, State Disaster Response Force, National Disaster Response Force, dog squads, and West Jaiñtia Hills Adventurers and Mountaineering Association volunteers.
  • Drone Deployment: A drone spotted Raghuvanshi’s body in the gorge, leading to its recovery.

  • Body Found: Raja’s body was discovered in a gorge near Weisawdong Falls, and the police suspected foul play.

The operation to catch one more suspect is ongoing, according to Chief Minister Sangma. The case highlights the meticulous work of the Meghalaya Police in solving complex crimes.
