Meerut: A month after the gruesome murder of 29-year-old Merchant Navy officer Saurabh Rajput—whose body was dismembered and hidden in a blue drum by his wife and her lover—Meerut has been shaken by another chilling crime. Amit Kashyap, 25, also known as Mickey, was discovered dead in his bed with a viper nearby in Akbarpur Sadat village of the Behsuma area on Sunday morning.

Though initial observations suggested he died from snake bites, the autopsy confirmed he had been strangled. During the investigation, Amit’s wife, Ravita, confessed to plotting the murder alongside her lover, Amardeep—a close friend of the victim. Their affair had caused frequent arguments between Amit and Ravita.

To carry out the murder and avoid suspicion, Ravita bought a snake for ₹1,000, strangled Amit, and placed the snake under his body to stage a false scenario of a snake bite.

Although early medical checks noted ten bite marks, the post-mortem cast doubt on the snake bite theory. Interrogation led to both Ravita and Amardeep admitting their role in the killing. It was revealed that the snake, trapped under Amit’s body, bit him several times posthumously.
