In Meerut, a court sentenced five men—including a father and his two sons—to life imprisonment for the murder of a 24-year-old man, whose body was burned in a car due to his relationship with the daughter of one of the accused. The daughter, who was 20 at the time, overheard her father, Gulab Singh, and brothers discussing the killing and later reported them to the police.
Gulab Singh, angered by his daughter’s inter-caste relationship, lured the victim, Sanjeev, to their home under the pretense of arranging a court marriage. Once there, the men beat Sanjeev to death and attempted to hide the crime by burning his body in his car at a secluded spot. The next day, locals discovered the charred remains, leading to an investigation and the eventual arrest of all five men.
The court noted the daughter’s attempt to call the police during the attack, though no help came. Charges were filed under Sections 302 and 201 of the IPC, and each convict was also fined ₹15,000.
