The district administration in Meerut has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges from July 16 to July 23, 2025, in view of the ongoing Kanwar Yatra and Shivratri celebrations. This decision aims to ensure smooth traffic management and public safety during the pilgrimage.

Affected Institutions:

The closure order applies to:

  • All Government and Private Schools: Primary, upper primary, and secondary schools
  • Colleges: Degree colleges and technical institutions
  • Boards: Schools affiliated with the UP Board, CBSE, ICSE, and Madrasa Board

Reason for Closure

The Kanwar Yatra, which began on July 11, will conclude on Shivratri, July 23. The district administration expects a large influx of devotees, which may cause traffic congestion and security concerns. To mitigate these issues, the administration has decided to close educational institutions during this period.

Action Against Non-Compliance

District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) Rajesh Kumar has warned that strict action will be taken against any institution found operating during the closure period. The institutions are expected to resume normal functioning from July 24, after the Shivratri celebrations.

The decision to close schools and colleges is part of the broader efforts by the administration to ensure public safety, regulate traffic, and prevent untoward incidents during the Kanwar Yatra.
