Meerut: A sub-inspector was suspended for allegedly organizing an iftar gathering at a recently inaugurated police chowki in Meerut’s City Kotwali area on Wednesday, officials reported. The incident came to light after a participant shared a video on social media, purportedly showing approximately 20 men seated with police personnel and having refreshments.

Upon reviewing the video, SSP Dr. Vipin Tada, who had inaugurated the chowki on March 17, ordered the suspension of Shailendra Pratap Singh and initiated a departmental inquiry. Kotwali CO Ashutosh Kumar stated, “Shailendra Pratap Singh, 52, who was in charge of the Zakir Colony police chowki, has been suspended. This act is deemed a breach of duty protocol, and appropriate action has been taken.”

Singh’s suspension follows a similar case from last week involving a government primary school headmistress in Bulandshahr. She was suspended for “severe negligence and violating school regulations” after a video surfaced showing nearly 100 villagers seated in rows and having refreshments in a classroom during an iftar gathering.

Additionally, on March 13, an FIR was lodged against a private university in Meerut after a video surfaced showing students offering namaz on campus. Subsequently, six students were arrested following a protest by around 400 students at the university’s main gate, opposing the arrest of a fellow student who had uploaded the video of the prayer session.
