In Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut, a woman and her lover—accused of murdering her Merchant Navy officer husband—were attacked by a group of lawyers while being brought in for a court hearing. According to a PTI report, as police escorted the accused, Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla, out of the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, several lawyers surrounded them and attempted to assault them. Amid the chaos, some lawyers grabbed Sahil’s clothes, while the police formed a protective circle around the duo. Officers struggled to control the situation as they escorted the accused to safety.
An NDTV report stated that authorities had started receiving alerts about a growing crowd of angry lawyers gathering inside the court premises. Despite additional police deployment, officials faced an aggressive mob of around a hundred lawyers determined to attack the accused. During the commotion, slogans like “Taiyyar raho” (stay ready) and “Maaro” (hit them) echoed through the crowd as they charged toward Muskan and Sahil. Later, the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court sent both accused to 14 days of judicial custody.
