Many Palestinians are fleeing from the east of Gaza’s second city, Khan Younis, after Israel issued an order for evacuation.
Israeli strikes are occurring day and night around Khan Younis. According to a medical source and the Palestinian Red Crescent, many have been killed in the strikes, while 30 are badly wounded.
Several medical staff and patients have been asked to leave the European Gaza Hospital. Even the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza has asked civilians to evacuate from the area. However, the Israeli military has not issued an evacuation order for the hospital itself.
The Red Crescent is trying to help many hospital staff and patients in the process of evacuation.
One of the UN officials who works for the Palestinian refugee agency in Gaza said, “Where will these people go after they have been asked to leave their own homes? In this area, people have already been forced to leave under dire conditions with destroyed houses, no clean water, and unsafe buildings after the Rafah military operations.”
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued a statement saying that they are responding to some 20 projectiles launched from the area of Khan Younis.
Overnight, the IDF has struck targets in the areas from where the projectiles were fired, including places where ammunition was stored and operational centers.
The IDF said Hamas was continuing to “systematically violate international law while using civilian infrastructure and the civilian population as human shields.”
Meanwhile, one of the armed wings of the Palestinians has stated that this was one of the biggest attacks carried out by Gaza.
Almost all of Khan Younis is destroyed, leaving the city almost unrecognizable. Some of its residents have returned, while many moved back to take refuge from Israel’s offensive in Rafah.
Once again, many are on the move, fearing a major new assault.
