Mani Shankar Aiyar, a veteran of the Congress, courted controversy when he said that instead of flexing its military might against Pakistan, India should have talks with that country, since doing so might provoke Islamabad into launching nuclear weapons against New Delhi.

A former ambassador and outspoken supporter of normalising relations between India and Pakistan, Aiyar, said that while the government can be harsh with Islamabad if it so chooses, it could face severe consequences if it treats the neighbouring nation with disrespect.

Aiyar stated that Pakistan possesses atomic weapons. However, he continued, India had them too, but it wouldn’t take eight seconds for the radiation to reach Amritsar if a “madman” decided to bomb Lahore.

Aiyar inquired whether they would stay calm if we treated them with respect. What would happen, though, if we ignored them if a “madman” decided to launch bombs against India?

No matter how serious India’s issues with Pakistan are, India has to show that we are working hard to resolve them, Aiyar remarked, taking a subtle jab at Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, no significant effort has been made for this purpose for the past ten years.

The Congress leader’s comments were made in the context of heightened tensions between Pakistan and India following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s well-known threat, “Ghar me Ghus Kar,” in which he threatened to use Indian forces to cross into Pakistan and murder anyone who tried to flee.

Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) “was, is, and will remain ours,” jabbed the Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh. As well as following the Prime Minister’s statement, other high-ranking members of the Bharatiya Janata Party have also intensified their criticism of Pakistan. However, India won’t need to use force to take it because the region’s inhabitants would naturally desire to be a part of India.

Farooq Abdullah, the head of the National Conference (NC) and a former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, informed Rajnath Singh about Pakistan’s nuclear weapons. With many wise words, he has to keep in mind that Pakistan is not wearing bangles either. Pakistan also has atom bombs; if the situation escalates further, they could fall on India.
