A judo coach was reportedly abducted from Sonakpur Stadium in Moradabad’s Civil Lines area on March 7 by individuals posing as government officials. The kidnappers, traveling in an SUV, took him to Bijnor, where he was held captive and pressured to withdraw a land dispute case by contacting his cousin for mediation. He later escaped and informed the police, leading to an FIR being registered.
Suhail Ahmed, a resident of Moradabad’s Friends Colony, lodged a complaint stating that around 9 AM on March 7, a woman and two men claiming to be from the Bijnor sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) court approached him. Under the pretense of recording his statement regarding the land dispute, they allegedly coerced him into their vehicle and took him to Bijnor. There, additional individuals, including Afaq Ahmed, his brother Osaf Ahmed, his son Bhola, nephew Zami, and associates Munir, Khalid, and Nisar, along with four unidentified persons, joined them.
Suhail alleged that the group tried to pressure him and his cousin into settling the dispute. However, he managed to escape, ran to the Bijnor collectorate, and informed the police. He also claimed that the accused fled with his bag containing crucial documents and ₹30,000. When he approached the Bijnor police, he was directed to file a complaint in Moradabad, as the case fell under its jurisdiction.
Moradabad ASP (City) Kunwar Ran Vijay Singh confirmed that a case has been registered against ten individuals under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). “Initial findings suggest Suhail went with the accused voluntarily. However, a detailed investigation is underway, and appropriate action will be taken based on the evidence,” he stated.
