New Delhi: A 19-year-old man, who had been evading arrest for 10 months, was finally caught by Delhi Police’s crime branch for his involvement in a stabbing murder in northwest Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy area last year.
Identified as Kshetrapal alias Sagar, the accused — a resident of Shahbad Dairy — was apprehended near Sunehri Chowk based on a tip-off, police said on Saturday.
According to police, the incident occurred on the night of June 30, 2024, when Kshetrapal and nine others assaulted 28-year-old Sunny over an old feud involving one of the accused, Ajay alias Modi. “Ajay reportedly slapped Sunny, following which the group brutally attacked him. Sunny was stabbed multiple times, sustaining severe injuries near his private parts and elsewhere on his body. Despite being rushed to BSA Hospital in Rohini by relatives, he was declared dead on arrival,” said DCP (Crime) Harsh Indora.
An FIR was registered at the Shahbad Dairy police station under IPC sections 302 (murder), 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting with deadly weapons), 149 (unlawful assembly), and 34 (common intention), along with sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act (illegal possession and use of weapons).
Police added that Kshetrapal avoided capture by constantly shifting his location. “A crime branch team tracked his associates and monitored communications through technical surveillance. Acting on a specific lead, the team set up a trap and arrested him,” said DCP Indora.
During questioning, Kshetrapal admitted to participating in the assault and stabbing of Sunny along with Ajay, Guddu, Daddu, Chetan, Deepak alias Deepu, Roshan, Prakash, and others, police said.
