Malan, Topley Shine as England Thrash Bangladesh by 137 Runs

England revived their 50-overs World Cup title defense with an impressive performance as Dawid Malan scored a career-best 140, and Reece Topley dominated with the ball, leading to a resounding 137-run victory over Bangladesh on Tuesday. Eager to recover from their earlier defeat by New Zealand, England posted a total of 364-9 after their top-order batsmen, including Malan, formed century partnerships with Jonny Bairstow (52) and Joe Root (82).
In his first match of the tournament, the left-arm fast bowler Topley (4-43) dismantled Bangladesh’s top order within the first six overs, paving the way for an easy England win. Bangladesh was eventually dismissed for 227 runs in 48.2 overs.
The condition of the outfield at the HPCA stadium came into question after the tournament’s first match, where players from both teams struggled with footing while chasing the ball.
Following an average rating in the match referee’s report after the initial game, the outfield in Dharamshala was declared fit for the England-Bangladesh game on Tuesday.
