Jalna (Maharashtra): A 22-year-old woman allegedly murdered her mother-in-law at their home in Maharashtra’s Jalna district after an argument and later fled when she was unable to dispose of the body, police said.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night, and the accused, Pratiksha Shingare, was arrested from Parbhani city on Wednesday, officials reported.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Ayush Nopany, Pratiksha had been married for six months to Akash Shingare, who works at a private company in Latur. She was living with her mother-in-law, Savita Shingare (45), in a rented house in Jalna’s Priyadarshni Colony.
During a heated dispute on Tuesday night, Pratiksha allegedly slammed her mother-in-law’s head against a wall before attacking her with a kitchen knife, resulting in her death, Police Sub-Inspector Rajendra Wagh stated. She then placed the body in a bag, attempting to dispose of it, but due to its weight, she was unable to move it and fled the house around 6 a.m. on Wednesday. She later boarded a train to her hometown, Parbhani.
The house owner discovered the body in the bag and alerted the police, leading to a manhunt. The police eventually located and arrested Pratiksha in Parbhani.
A preliminary investigation suggests the victim died from head injuries, and further inquiries into the case are ongoing, officials added.
