Maha Kumbh Stampede: Investigation Suggests a ‘Conspiracy,’ BJP MP Informs Parliament

BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad claimed on Monday that the investigation into the Maha Kumbh stampede in Prayagraj indicates a possible conspiracy. Speaking in Parliament during the discussion on the motion of thanks for the President’s address and the presentation of the 2025-26 Budget, he suggested that the probe was uncovering suspicious elements.
“…The investigation into the Maha Kumbh incident is ongoing. We are sensing a conspiracy behind it. Once the probe is complete, those responsible will have to bow their heads in shame,” Prasad was quoted as saying by ANI.
The tragic stampede occurred on January 29, during Mauni Amavasya—one of the holiest days in the Hindu calendar—when a massive crowd broke barricades as crores of pilgrims gathered at the Sangam area in Prayagraj to take a holy dip. The incident resulted in at least 30 deaths and left 60 injured.
Earlier in the day, opposition parties demanded a discussion on the tragedy and a list of the deceased. When the House convened after the President’s address and the Budget presentation, opposition MPs, led by Congress, pressed for a debate on the incident.
