In a shocking case of revenge in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district, a man jailed for killing his father eight years ago was himself murdered on a highway by killers hired by his cop brother. The incident has left many stunned, highlighting the dark side of family feuds and the lengths people will go to for revenge.
The Original Crime
In 2017, Ajay Tomar shot and killed his father, retired police inspector Hanuman Singh Tomar, during an argument over family property and money. Ajay was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. His mother, Shakuntala Devi, and brother, Bhanu Tomar, testified against him in court.
The Revenge Plot
Bhanu Tomar, who got a job in the police force on compassionate grounds after his father’s murder, waited seven years for revenge. When Ajay was granted parole last month, Bhanu saw his chance. He plotted Ajay’s murder with the help of a 17-year-old girl who befriended Ajay while he was on parole. Bhanu hired a hardened criminal, Dharmendra Kushwaha, to kill Ajay for Rs 1 lakh.
The Highway Murder
On July 23, Ajay was traveling from Shivpuri to Gwalior with the 17-year-old girl when hired killers ambushed his car near a petrol pump at Nayagaon Tiraha. The girl, who was in on the plot, got out of the car pretending to use the restroom, giving the killers their cue. Ajay was shot dead in a hail of bullets.
Investigation and Aftermath
The police cracked the case by scanning CCTV footage from over 500 cameras between Shivpuri and Gwalior. Bhanu’s cousin, Monesh, and the 17-year-old girl were arrested, and the murder weapon was recovered. Bhanu, who’s now in Bangkok, is being sought by the police. Shivpuri Superintendent of Police Aman Singh Rathore said a “family feud became an execution mission.”
