The Harmilap Building, which collapsed around 5 p.m. on Saturday, was used as a warehouse for a pharmaceutical business. Police reported that the building, constructed about four years ago, was undergoing some construction work at the time. Most victims were on the ground floor when the incident occurred, and the injured have been taken to various hospitals, including Lok Bandhu Hospital. The building contained a motor workshop and warehouse on the ground floor, a medical godown on the first floor, and a cutlery warehouse on the second floor. Akash Singh, an injured worker from the medical godown, mentioned noticing a crack in a pillar just before the collapse. “We had come down to the ground floor because it was raining. We noticed a crack in a pillar, and suddenly, the entire building came down on us,” he told PTI.

He directed the district administration, SDRF, and NDRF teams to expedite the relief work and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Defense Minister and Lok Sabha MP from Lucknow, Rajnath Singh, expressed deep sorrow over the deaths. “The news of the building collapse in Lucknow is extremely painful,” Singh stated on X. He also mentioned speaking with the District Magistrate of Lucknow to get updates on the situation and assured that local authorities are fully engaged in rescue and relief efforts.
