Faisal Nadeem, also known as Abu Qatal, a key Lashkar-e-Taiba operative and one of the group’s most wanted terrorists, was killed in Pakistan on Saturday night, according to India Today. Qatal, a close associate of the 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed, was chargesheeted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) alongside two other Pakistan-based LeT handlers for their involvement in the January 2023 Rajouri attacks. The chargesheet was part of the NIA’s broader efforts to dismantle terror networks in Jammu and Kashmir.
The case, registered as RC-01 & 02/2023/NIA/JMU, was linked to the January 1, 2023, attack on civilians in Dhangri, Rajouri, followed by an IED blast the next day. The attacks resulted in the deaths of seven people, including two children, and left several others seriously injured.
The three chargesheeted LeT handlers were identified as Abu Qatal, Saifullah (alias Sajid Jutt, also known by multiple names like Ali, Habibullah, and Nouman), and Mohd Qasim. While Qatal and Jutt were Pakistani nationals, Qasim had crossed over to Pakistan in 2002 and later joined the LeT.
Investigations revealed that the trio played a key role in recruiting and deploying LeT terrorists from Pakistan to target civilians, particularly members of the minority community in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as security forces. The attacks were carried out under their instructions.
