Legendary Singer Asha Bhosle Celebrates 90th Birthday with Dubai Performance

The iconic Asha Bhosle, renowned for her melodious voice and timeless contributions to the music industry, marked her 90th birthday with a spectacular live performance in Dubai yesterday. Asha Bhosle has left an indelible mark on the world of music with her extensive repertoire of over 12,000 songs in various languages. Her voice continues to enchant music lovers of all generations.
Asha Bhosle talked openly about her time in the music industry as well as the challenges she had to face in an interview with PTI. She said, “Humari saans nahin hoti hai toh aadmi mar jata hai. Mere liye music meri saans hai.” She meant that music is like oxygen for her, and singing is equivalent to the act of breathing.
Bhosle has made a name for herself in music throughout her eight-decade career and has proven to be a diverse performer as well. However, she feels that as she has aged, her “connection with music has grown stronger.” At the age of 10, she made her playback debut in the Marathi film Majha Bal (1943). She recorded a solo Hindi film song five years later, for the 1949 film Raat Ki Raani. Although it wasn’t easy for her to get into the very competitive industry of film music, her life has also been a roller coaster.
She has worked with numerous accomplished music producers over the years, including OP Nayyar, Shankar-Jaikishen, RD Burman, Khayyam, Bappi Lahiri, and AR Rahman. She consistently brought her versatility, vivacity, and brilliance to the recording studios, making her one of India’s most in-demand performing artists. Bhosle could cultivate her “own individual style.” Bhosle’s stage performances, which are infused with her vivacity and flamboyance, showcase her flair.
The singer performs her riyaaz every morning, saying that singing is “equivalent to breathing” for her. This shows how devoted she is to singing. She believes that her admirers are likely to see “more unique presentations in music” from her as she embraces a new decade in her life.
