Law Student Detained in Connection with Vadodara Car Crash; Claimed a Woman’s Life and Injured Seven

The accident took place on Thursday night near the Amrapali shopping complex in Vadodara’s Karelibaug area. Police are investigating whether the accused, who are reportedly students, were under the influence of intoxicants.
A speeding car crashed into three two-wheelers and pedestrians in Vadodara’s Karelibaug area on Thursday night, killing a woman and injuring seven others. The driver, law student Rakshit Chaurasiya, and his co-passenger, mass communication student Praanshu Chauhan, have been arrested. Police are investigating whether they were under the influence of intoxicants, as Chaurasiya admitted to consuming bhaang earlier.
The accident, involving a Volkswagen Virtus, resulted in the death of Hemali Patel, who had stepped out to buy Holi colors. Among the injured are two young girls, aged 10 and 12, with three victims in critical condition. Chaurasiya was caught at the scene by locals, while Chauhan was arrested later. A video from the incident shows Chauhan blaming Chaurasiya, who is heard repeating, “Another round.”
Vadodara Police Commissioner Narasimha Komar confirmed the ongoing investigation, with forensic experts collecting evidence, including CCTV footage and witness statements. Blood samples from both accused have been sent for analysis to determine intoxication levels. Meanwhile, police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder at Karelibaug police station.
