A labourer from Uttar Pradesh, identified as Shubam Kumar from Bijnore, was shot and injured by terrorists on Thursday in the Tral area of South Kashmir Pulwama district. Kumar sustained a gunshot wound to his arm when terrorists opened fire in Batagund village. He was immediately taken to the hospital, and his condition is reported to be stable.
This is the third attack on non-local labourers in Kashmir in the past week. On Sunday, six non-local labourers and a local doctor were killed in a terror attack at a construction site in Ganderbal district. CCTV footage captured two terrorists, armed with an American-made M4 carbine and an AK-47, spending seven minutes at a workers’ camp in Ganderbal, where seven people were killed on October 20. The victims were employed by APCO Infratech, the company constructing the Z-Morh tunnel on the Srinagar-Sonamarg highway.
The attack took place around 7:25 p.m. as some employees were in the dining area, while others were heading to dinner. The camp was located near an approach road to the tunnel, surrounded by barren mountains and the Srinagar-Leh national highway.
This incident marks the deadliest civilian attack in Jammu and Kashmir since June 9, when nine pilgrims were killed in Reasi after their bus plunged into a valley following terrorist gunfire. Additionally, on October 18, Ashok Kumar Chavan, a labourer from Bihar, was shot dead by terrorists in Shopian district. His body, found in the Wachi area of Zainpora, bore four bullet wounds. This was the first targeted killing in the Valley since Omar Abdullah’s civilian government took office on October 16.
