Kolkata rape horror: The accused, not professionally connected to the hospital but a frequent visitor, allegedly raped and murdered a doctor inside Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital before returning home to sleep for a few hours, police reported on Sunday.

He later washed his clothes to destroy evidence, but police found bloodstains on his shoes. The accused is a civic volunteer with no professional ties to the hospital. The body of the victim, a post-graduate trainee doctor, was discovered in a seminar hall of the hospital on Friday morning. Her colleagues mentioned that she had gone there to rest after having her meal. The crime occurred between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. City Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal visited the medical college on Sunday for the second time in three days and met with representatives of protesting junior doctors. According to an officer, after committing the crime, the accused returned to his place of residence, slept until late Friday morning, and then washed the clothes he wore during the crime to eliminate evidence. His blood-stained shoes were found during a search. The initial autopsy report revealed that the victim had injuries and was bleeding from her eyes, mouth, and private parts, with additional injuries on her leg, neck, hand, and lips.

Meanwhile, a police officer cited by PTI indicated that circumstantial evidence suggested the possibility that the doctor was first murdered and then raped. The autopsy report was handed over to the deceased doctor’s parents by a senior officer. The police commissioner mentioned that a productive meeting was held with the students, who appeared to be satisfied with actions taken, including the removal of an assistant police officer as per their demand. Additionally, the hospital authorities have dismissed the two security personnel stationed at the emergency ward for failing to perform their duties.
