In a thrilling match, Rohit Sharma displayed his explosive form once again, leading India’s charge after Bangladesh posted a total of 256/8. However, the Indian captain’s imperious start was cut short when he fell for 48 off 40 deliveries in the 13th over. Virat Kohli took center stage and seized the opportunity, capitalizing on two consecutive no-ball deliveries. His first ball yielded two runs, the second, a free hit, resulted in a boundary, and the third saw him smashing a six, accumulating an impressive 12 runs from his initial three balls.
Shubman Gill, on the other hand, effortlessly notched up a half-century, ultimately departing the crease after reaching 53. The partnership of Kohli and Shreyas Iyer then took center stage, securing India’s position in the chase. Kohli continued to dominate, securing his 69th ODI half-century as India steadily progressed. As the match unfolded, Kohli and Rahul strategically rotated the strike, ensuring that Kohli had the majority of it to reach his century. What initially appeared to be a one-sided contest suddenly became a thrilling encounter, as Kohli brilliantly achieved his 48th ODI century and sealed the victory with a resounding six.
In the earlier stages of the game, India effectively stifled the Bangladesh lineup during the middle overs, following a strong 93-run opening partnership. The Bangladeshi team eventually found themselves with only four wickets remaining and just over 200 runs on the board. The promising partnership between Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim was disrupted by a sensational piece of fielding by Ravindra Jadeja, whose extraordinary catch at point granted Jasprit Bumrah his first wicket. It’s worth noting that all Indian bowlers, except for Hardik Pandya and Virat Kohli, who bowled just six deliveries combined, made significant contributions by taking wickets.
