Kerala Firework Accident Near Veerarkavu Temple Leaves Over 150 Injured, with 8 in Critical Condition

Over 150 people were injured, with eight in critical condition, following a fireworks accident during a temple festival near Neeleswaram in Kasaragod, Kerala, on Monday night, according to PTI, which cited police sources. The injured were taken to hospitals in Kasargod, Kannur, and Mangaluru.
The incident is believed to have occurred when a storage facility for fireworks near the Veerarkavu Temple caught fire around midnight. Senior district officials, including the collector and police chief, arrived at the scene, and an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway. Local communities are rallying to support the victims and their families.
Reports indicate that five of those admitted to Kanhangad district hospital are in critical condition. Mathrubhumi reported that 33 people were taken to the district hospital, 19 to Aishal Hospital in Kanhangad, and 12 to Arimala Hospital. Additionally, 40 were admitted to Sanjeevani Hospital, 11 to Nileshwar Taluk Hospital, and five to Aster MIMS Hospital in Kannur.
More injured individuals were sent to hospitals in Mangaluru and the Government Medical College Hospital in Pariyaram, Kannur. Eyewitnesses, quoted by Mathrubhumi, mentioned that the accident happened during a fireworks display at the Moolamkuzhi Chamundi Theyyam festival in Nileshwar, Kasaragod, when a misfired firecracker struck a building containing explosives, triggering a large explosion that injured numerous onlookers, including women and children.
