Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah is set to appear before the Lokayukta police in Mysuru today for an inquiry into alleged irregularities in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam. The Lokayukta initiated the investigation after a court order on September 27 directed an FIR to be filed. The case involves allegations that MUDA illegally allocated 14 prime sites in Mysuru, valued at ₹56 crore, to Siddaramaiah’s wife, Parvathi.
Recently, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches at multiple locations in Mangalore, Bengaluru, Mandya, and Mysuru related to a money-laundering case linked to the MUDA scam. This action followed ED summons to six MUDA employees for questioning at the agency’s Bengaluru office. The ED has filed a money-laundering case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against Siddaramaiah and others, which grants the agency authority to summon individuals and potentially seize assets as part of the investigation. Named in the FIR are Siddaramaiah, his wife BM Parvathi, his brother-in-law Mallikarjuna Swamy, and Devaraju, who reportedly sold land to Swamy, which was later gifted to Parvathi.
Siddaramaiah has denied the accusations, alleging political persecution and rejecting demands from the BJP for his resignation. The BJP, in response, has criticized the Congress for allegedly supporting “corrupt” leaders and has continued to call for Siddaramaiah’s resignation.
On Tuesday, the Karnataka High Court issued notices to Siddaramaiah and others in response to a petition seeking to transfer the MUDA case investigation. Filed by Snehamayi Krishna, the petition has also prompted notices to the Central and State governments, the CBI, and the Lokayukta police. The High Court instructed the Lokayukta police to present updates on the investigation by November 25, with the next hearing scheduled for November 26.
