BJP national spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill criticized his party’s MP, Kangana Ranaut, for her recent comments on the three farm laws and expressed gratitude to the BJP for distancing itself from her “constant rants and illogical statements,” according to news agency ANI.
Shergill thanked the BJP for making it clear that Ranaut’s remarks should not cast doubt on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s relationship with the people of Punjab. “As a Punjabi, I must say that Kangana Ranaut’s persistent and baseless statements against the Sikh community and Punjab’s farmers undermine the welfare and development work done by PM Modi for Punjab and its people,” Shergill said.
The BJP officially distanced itself from the Mandi MP’s comments, clarifying that her call to reinstate the repealed farm laws was her personal opinion and did not reflect the party’s stance. BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia emphasized that Ranaut is not authorized to speak on behalf of the party regarding the farm laws, stating, “Her statement does not represent BJP’s views, and we disapprove of it.”
The widespread criticism from both BJP members and the opposition prompted Kangana Ranaut to clarify on social media that her views on the farm laws were personal and not aligned with the party’s position. Ranaut’s remarks on the farmers’ protests have been controversial for some time.
In August, she sparked further debate by suggesting that without the government’s strong measures, the protests could have escalated to a crisis similar to Bangladesh’s situation.
