YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra has admitted to being in regular contact with a staff member of the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, officials said on Tuesday. According to Hisar Police spokesperson Vikas Kumar, Malhotra confessed during interrogation that she had communicated with Ehsan-ur-Rahim, also known as Danish — a Pakistani national and official at the High Commission — from November 2023 to March 2025. Authorities suspect Danish was working to recruit her as an intelligence asset.
“She confirmed her direct contact with Danish during this period,” Kumar noted, adding that she was also in touch with several other YouTube influencers. Three of Malhotra’s mobile phones, her laptop, and two phones belonging to Harkirat Singh — IT in-charge of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee — have been sent for forensic analysis.
Sources said officials from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB) questioned Malhotra extensively about her potential ties to Pakistani intelligence operatives. Investigators are also reviewing her financial records, which involve multiple bank accounts and several transactions. “It will take time to analyze the financial trail,” a senior Hisar police officer said anonymously.
Authorities are also probing her international travel history. Malhotra, who received her passport in 2018 (valid until 2028), has visited Pakistan, China, Dubai, Thailand, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, and Indonesia.
She is expected to be presented in court on Wednesday, where police will seek an extension of her remand for further questioning.
Malhotra is one of 12 individuals arrested over the past two weeks across Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh in connection with an alleged espionage ring suspected of links to Pakistan’s intelligence network operating in northern India.
